Part of the reason why their popularity has
increased over time is due to the fact that they are readily available in most
markets and relatively inexpensive to produce when compared to plastic boxes.
As more and more people begin to go green and move green, their continued use
will decrease as more people opt for wholesale
paper boxes.
So, what are cardboard boxes made of? Well,
they are actually made of corrugated fiberboard sometimes called poster board
or solid board. It is basically paper with a weight of not less than 610mg/m2.
They contain two layers which have long
fibers in them and which make them hard wearing even after continuous use in
carrying heavy items. In fact their use dates back to the 1840s in France.
There is even a museum of cosmetic packaging boxes
in Valreas, France. The problem with them is that for each inch of cardboard
out there, a tree is cut down. And because cardboard is used so often in
moving, it means that lots and lots of trees have to be continuously cut to
keep up with the demand.
